The Process
*Choosing a size: A smaller size 5x7 will not have the amount of detail as a larger piece, there just isn’t enough room to draw for example the highlighted water line or detail reflection in their eyes.
*Once you’ve placed your order you’ll receive notification from me to upload your chosen reference photos. Or send them to me with your order number at jessicawalkerfineart@gmail.com and I'll confirm receipt.
It’s a good rule to send at least 3, if you’re having trouble choosing please reach out with your photos and I can give you my opinion as to which ones would be best for the desired outcome.
*A high quality photo with good lighting is important, if I can’t see it I can’t draw it. Down below I've included examples of good and bad photos.
**I know there are times we just don’t have the perfect photo this is especially true with memorial portraits. If you’d like a portrait but not sure if any of your photos would work reach out to me first, we can go over the photos and make the decision together before you purchase. I have some photo editors I can use to help adjust lighting but a blurry photo just can’t be corrected.
*Upon placing your order it will be added to my production queue. It’s important to remember that this is hand drawn with colored pencil (not digital) and does take time. If this is a gift please make sure to contact me to find out exact processing time. If I can not meet the deadline discussed a gift card would be a great option.
*You’ll receive progress photos. The first I’ll send is the sketch so you can make sure you’re happy with placement, once confirmed I’ll begin. The second will be in progress, and the third will be the completed portrait.
*It is important to remember this is not a photo, it will not be a photocopy of a photograph. Lighting will change slightly, not every hair will be visible, not every single curl will be the same.
**Once I begin no changes can be made, I use highly pigmented professional quality pencils, and some colors once blended cannot be erased due to the staining properties of the color.
*Once completed I usually seal the portrait with an archival fixative, this ensures that no smudging will occur and extra protection for longevity. This is optional, if you do not want a fixative applied please let me know. I want to note, once the fixative is dry there is no residual smell.
